US 1940s Study Involved Giving Syphylis to Guatemalans, Discovered by Women’s and Gender Studies Professor

Turns out that in 1946, US governmental medical researchers purposely infected 695 Guatemalan prisoners, insane asylum inmates, and prisoners with syphilis and gonorrhea. Link to the research paper that brought this to light: linky.

She found this by researching the Tuskegee syphilis experiments (the differences being: Tuskegee is in Alabama, no one was purposely given syphilis, and treatment was withheld)
